We are seeking a skilled and passionate Commis Chef to join our culinary team at the Hilltop Gardens Retirement Village. Responsibilities:
* Assist in the preparation and cooking of food items under supervision.
* Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specification as set by the Head Chef.
* Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations at all times.
* Ensure food is stored, prepared, and served in accordance with food safety standards.
* Assist in receiving, unpacking, and properly storing deliveries.
* Support senior kitchen staff with day-to-day tasks and prep work.
* Follow kitchen procedures and safety protocols.
* Learn and apply culinary techniques and standards in different sections (e.g., hot kitchen, cold kitchen, pastry)
* Assist in minimizing food waste and maintaining inventory control.
* Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
Requirements:
* Basic culinary training or relevant kitchen experience preferred.
* Passion for cooking and willingness to learn.
* Understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety standards.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
* Good communication and time management skills.
* Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
* Food Handling Certificate (Mandatory).
* Minimum 2 years of experience in similar position.
